ACV Cider is a fabulous alternative for hot apple cider. All the flavors of fall, the spice of apple cider, the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and healthy, anti-inflammatory spices. Yum!!!
One of the first “natural” remedies that I tried was Apple Cider Vinegar. ♥I Love ACV!♥ Due to increasing allergies, asthma and shortness of breath, my doctor prescribed a corticosteriod inhaler. Immediately, I developed Thrush and a yeast infection. When I went back to the doctor, they prescribed an oral anti-fungal but basically told me that until I was off the medication that the yeast problem would just reoccur. Okay??? So, I’m supposed to be on this med long term. WTH?
At that time in my life, I was getting pretty frustrated with standard conventional medicine. Basically, every medication they prescribed gave me another problem or two. Argh!!!!
So, whats a girl to do? Well, I got pissed off! So, rather than go back to the doctor again when the Thrush came back within a few days, I went on the internet. Ha!
One of the remedies I found was gargling or drinking ACV diluted with water so I decided to try it. While it didn’t “cure” the thrush, it definitely improved it. I have been drinking ACV on a daily basis ever since. Let me tell you, drinking ACV is definitely an acquired taste! Early on, I would heat water then combine it with 1-2 tablespoons of ACV and about 1/2 to 3/4 tablespoon of honey. Note: you do not want boiling water as it can kill the healthful benefits in the honey and quite frankly that temperature of ACV is too much, even for me!
ACV Cider Inspiration
Everywhere you look on Pinterest, someone has a recipe for an ACV drink. Some with lemon, cinnamon, etc. Well, I was game for a way to improve the taste of my ACV. In the meantime, my super fabulous hair stylist, Danielle, had shared the spice blend she uses to combat inflammation. That blend formed the basis for my recipe. So, thank you Danielle, for the inspiration!!!
I experimented a bit with different spices and quantities until I was pleased with the mix. Wow! My experiments were awesome! This spice mix made my simple ACV and honey taste extremely reminiscent to hot apple cider!!! As a diabetic, I don’t get to have juice any more, let alone hot apple cider! Yum! My “medicine” just got a whole lot tastier!!!
ACV Cider as a treat
Now, that I’m so used to drinking ACV, I just drink it with water straight up. When I am looking for a bit of a treat, if I am having congestion from allergies or a cold, or when I just want a little hot pick me up I will indulge in the ACV Cider.
However, I love the spice blend for all sorts of other uses. I use it every single day with gluten free toast and almond butter!!! Yum, yum, yum. For the Anti-Inflammatory Fall Spice Blend, click here.
ACV Cider recipe notes
Apple Cider Vinegar~For the flavor and health benefits of the Apple Cider Vinegar you want the one with the “mother”. I prefer Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. Also, if you have never drank ACV, you may want to start with a smaller amount, like 1 teaspoon.
Local Honey~Local honey is the best if you are dealing with seasonal allergies as local honey can help you deal with the particular allergens for your area.

If you like this recipe, I strongly suggest you make up a full batch of it and keep it in a spice container so you can have Anti-Inflammatory Fall Spice Blend or ACV Cider any time you like. 😉
A kitchen scale is totally not necessary for this recipe, but I find it helpful for the honey. (This is the scale that I have and really like.) Honey can be messy trying to get out of your measuring spoon. Once I started measuring honey with my scale it is SO much easier!
ACV Cider-Note for Diabetics
As referenced in my post Anti-Inflammatory Fall Spice Blend, many of the spices in this blend can lower blood sugar such as turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon. There are also some potential correlations to ACV and lower blood sugar. Obviously, honey will raise blood sugar.
For me, I literally have minimal to no change in blood sugar when I drink ACV Cider. However, this is just my experience and we are all different. I am not a medical professional, just a diabetic gal trying to live more naturally. If you have issues with blood sugar, I strongly recommend monitoring your blood sugar before and after consuming this drink. If you have any concerns at all, of course consult your medical professional.
ACV Cider Mix (Anti-Inflammatory Fall Spice Blend with ACV and Honey)
- 1-2 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1/2 - 3/4 Tablespoon honey, local
- 1/8 teaspoon Turmeric, ground
- 1/8 teaspoon Ginger, ground
- 1/8 teaspoon Cinnamon, ground
- 1/16 teaspoon Nutmeg, ground
- 1/16 teaspoon Cloves, ground
- 1/32 teaspoon Black Pepper, ground
- Hot Water almost boiling or boil then let cool a few minutes
- Combine all the spices in a large mug.
- Bring the water almost to boiling, or bring to boiling then let sit for a few minutes.
- Add the honey, stir until dissolved.
- Enjoy! Note: the spices will settle to the bottom of the cup so you need to stir as you drink.
